Interview with South African Mom Blogger - Zeenah Rahim

Emma Kate started this blog series to showcase what great mothers we have out there and to show support between fellow mothers. The series showcases how these ladies became mom bloggers and what inspired them to start this journey in their lives. The interviews may even inspire another fellow mom to start their own blog.

Today I would like to introduce Mom Blogger - Zeenah Rahim who started Mother of 7

Zeenah Rahim
How long ago did you start your blog?
I started my blog in 2018, after I wrote 2 of my life stories for Tommee Tippee Uk. This writing inspired and motivated me to do more. These stories can be viewed here.
Why did you decide to start a mom blog?
I realised that my experiences and overcoming many challenges were what a lot of my audience were going through. This meant that I could share my experience and advice with them on many aspects like divorce, being a single mother, applying for child maintenance, creating additional income, etc.
What was it like in the beginning?
Blogging in the beginning was like second nature to me. However I was not aware of the good, the bad and the ugly. I learnt about media kits and rate cards, how to manage your blog and how to respond to brands when they approach me. Many times I would think of giving it all up, so I keep reminding myself that my blog is here to help other parents as well as a time capsule for my children.
How did you come up with the name for your blog?
Mother of 7 came into effect when I was pregnant with my twins. I was at my gynae and we were going through all my pregnancies and he was the one who gave me the nickname Mother of 7. I liked the unique ring to it and it kind of just stuck.
What is unique about your blog?
I aim to have a blog that is out there to assist other parents when they are faced with parenting challenges. I also focus a lot on twin parenting as this for me has been the most challenging of all parenting stages.
How do you market your blog and what has been the most successful way of marketing?
I haven’t really had the time to market my blog per say, I mostly write a post and then share the link on Instagram. Most of my audience are active on Instagram, so this would be the most successful way of marketing.
How many hours a day do you spend on your blog?
I have been really bad lately, so over the past quarter I would say less than 6 hours.
Can you describe/ outline your typical Day?
With teenagers, a toddler and twins, my family NEEDS a routine. So a typical week day is as follows.
6:00 – 6:45 Wake up, dress and breakfast
7:00 – 08:00 drop kids at school, head to work
16:30 – 17:30 return from work (all kids are home by this time)
This hour is used for kicking off my shoes, relaxing and playing with my kids.
17:30 – 18:30 Finish dinner, toddler helps where he can. Teenagers are around (most of the time just lazing around or playing games). Toddler usually helps with dinner or plays with the teenagers. Twin are having their supper, left overs from the night before so when we eat they are still in their feeding chairs but we don’t have to feed them as they will just nibble.
18:30 Dinner time (family time)
19:00 – 19:30 Bath time for the twins and toddler.
20:00 Bed time for twins and toddler
Has being a mom blogger affected your family life at all?
No, I write in my spare time and my spare time is not around my children (hahahaha).
Do you have any advice for a fellow mom wanting to start their own blog?
Yes, I would tell that person that if you love writing and sharing your experiences, go for it. Find the perfect name that best describes what your blog will be about.
