Interview with South African Mom Blogger - Tarryn
Emma Kate started this blog series to showcase what great mothers we have out there and to show support between fellow mothers. The series showcases how these ladies became mom bloggers and what inspired them to start this journey in their lives. The interviews may even inspire another fellow mom to start their own blog.
Today I would like to introduce Mom Blogger - Tarryn who started Little Josh & Noah.
How long ago did you start your blog?
Just over 2 years ago
Why did you decide to start a mom blog?
Motherhood can be lonely, especially if your circle of friends does not have babies yet. I wanted to reach out to other moms doing the same journey and share in everything that motherhood has to bring. I also wanted to create a platform where I could share our journey and document my kids growing up.
What was it like in the beginning?
It was hard, trying to build yourself up and put yourself out there for the world to see is intimidating and hard, but I did it because I enjoyed it. I don’t have the vision to become a huge well-known blogger, I just want to share my journey with others that want to be there and share it with me.
How did you come up with the name for your blog?
Joshua was the face of my blog when I started and naming it after him just seemed appropriate. Now that Noah has come along, I’ve changed that name to include him, however if I could go back I would have rather created another name without my kid's names.
What is unique about your blog?
I always try to remain as authentic as possible, and will always share my heart in every situation. I'm not afraid to share my faith and what I believe and then obviously there ain’t no other boys like Joshua & Noah!
How do you market your blog and what has been the most successful way of marketing?
I don’t do much marketing of the blog. I share all my posts to Facebook and Instagram and seldomly ill boost my post to reach new people.
How many hours a day do you spend on your blog?
Definitely not as much as I used to now that I am working for myself, but if you have to split it up I would say about 2 – 3 hours a day.
Can you describe/ outline your typical Day?
Oh goodness, chaos, some days I love it and others I just want to climb back into bed, but we all feel this way right! Having 2 boys, Im kept on my toes and Im busy all the time, there is no time for me time, except at night once they are in bed and asleep. If I have to describe a typical day it would include serving many snacks, giving lots of cuddles and kisses, a lot of tears and fun.
Has being a mom blogger affected your family life at all?
Yes, I think any sort of connection to social media can affect your family life. In the beginning, when I used to spend hours on the blog daily it upset my husband. We would have lots of arguments about it and it did affect my time with my kids, in the beginning, Josh didn’t notice, but I feel like I missed parts of his life by watching it through my screen or while he was sleeping, spending time on my phone instead of just soaking at the moment with him. Now I can see that it does bother Josh as he will very clearly tell me “mama get off your phone”, so I try to make a conscious effort for our afternoon playtime to leave my phone and just give them 100% of my attention.
Do you have any advice for a fellow mom wanting to start their own blog?
First pray about it, if you believe that God has placed something on your heart that you want to share, then go for it! Get your social media pages set up, don’t worry about fancy logo’s and everything, that can come later. If you want to blog, set up your blog, you can do all of this for free and write your first post! Share it, tags some friends and ask them to support your journey.
